Joe Nieuwendyk

Joseph “Joe” Nieuwendyk (born the September 10th 1966 with Oshawa in Ontario with the Canada) is a former player of Canadian Hockey professional which played station of center. He was regarded as one of the best specialists in the setting to the play.

Nieuwendyk was chosen by the Flames of Calgary in 2nd round of the Repêchage of entry in the LNH 1985, 27e on the whole. Its first season was limited to 9 matches. The rule in the LNH being that should be played 25 matches not to be regarded as a recruit more, it preserved the statute of player recruit the following season, season during which he became one of the rare players of the history to mark 50 goals at his season recruit. Mike Bossy (53), Wayne Gretzky (51), Teemu Selänne (76) and more recently, Alexander Ovechkin (52), made a success of all the same exploit. It gained thus the Trophée Calder and a place in the team of stars of the recruits.

Nieuwendyk played for five teams during her career; it gained the Coupe Stanley with three of them. Following its stay at the Flames, Nieuwendyk passes to the Stars of Dallas in 1995-96, where it gains in 1999 its second Stanley Cut. It is exchanged with the Devils of the New Jersey during the season 2001-02; it will gain one 3rd Stanley Cut with as many different teams. He will play 94 matches with the New Jersey before signing at the Maple Leafs of Toronto in 2003-04. He became free agent before the season 2005-06 and joint with the Panthers of Florida in company of his old friend Gary Roberts after Mike Keanan offered to them a contract of 4,5 million dollars each one, contracts which Leafs could not equalize because of the constraints imposed by the wage ceiling lately founded in the league. Roberts and Nieuwendyk were found for the 3rd time together within the same team of the LNH.

With the international plan, Nieuwendyk gained with the team of Canada the gold medal with the Olympic Games of 2002 with Salt Lake City. It also took part in the championship of the world of 1990 and in the Olympic Games of 2002 with Nagano.

Nieuwendyk was also an excellent player of stick. It gained a Coupe Minto with the Warriors de Whitby, in company of his old friend Gary Roberts.

The December 6th 2006, it announces its retirement of hockey because of chronic evils of back, thus putting a term at a 20 seasons career. Interesting fact, at the time of its retirement, it was ex-aequo with Mike Bossy in the chapter of the points in career; Bossy had to also put an end to him to its career because of evils of chronic backs.
