Joe Newman

Joe Newman (Joseph Dwight Newman) is a Trompettiste of American Jazz born the September 22nd 1922 with the Orleans News and deceased the July 4th 1992 with New York.

Biography

Born in a family from musicians, Joe Newman, makes his studies with the “Alabama State College”. From 1941 to 1942, he plays in the orchestra of Lionel Hampton. From 1943 to 1947, he is trumpet player in the Big band of Count Basie. From 1947 to 1952, he plays a time with Illinois Jacquet then J.C. Heard. It reinstates, the rows of the orchestra of Basie to remain there until 1961. In 1962, it takes part in the round of Benny Goodman in Soviet Union. It then carries out, of face, a career of musician “free lance” with New York and of teacher. It is one of the founders of association “Jazz interraction” (of which it is in 1967 president) which is given for objective to make known the jazz in the colleges and colleges. Suffering from cardiac problems, he dies in 1992.
