Joe Kelly (pilot)

Joseph Kelly known as Joe Kelly was an old driver Irish of race of Formule 1 born the March 13rd 1913 with Dublin in Ireland and deceased the November 28th 1993 with Neston in the Cheshire in England.

Biography

Joe Kelly, in the beginning salesman of automobile engines (at one time when each amateur of car could mount the engine of his choice on the frame of his choice) begins in automobile competition at the wheel from a Alta GP. He takes part thus in the first race of the championship of the world of F1, the automobile Grand Prix of Great Britain 1950, disputed on the circuit of Silverstone. Alta GP only enables him to be qualified in 19th position on the grid then to finish not classified with 13 turns of the winner Giuseppe Farina. Out-championship, Kelly makes a success of some honourable performances by finishing 4th Ulster Trophy and second of the Wakefield Trophy .

In 1951, Kelly engages again with GP of the United Kingdom with the same single-seater as the former season. It hardly progresses in qualification (18th) and finishes again not classified with 15 turns of the winner Jose Froilán González.

In 1952, Kelly does not take part any more but in tests out-championship of the world. Its Alta WP became completely obsolete and Kelly undertakes to modify it. The engine Alta 4 on line is replaced by a Bristol BS1 with 6 cylinders on line of 130ch while the frame, also modified by its care, is renamed WILL GO (Irish Racing Automobile). At the wheel of her single-seater, Kelly finishes 3rd Ulster Trophy in 1952.
