Joe Dassin

Joseph Ira Dassin , known as Joe Dassin (November 5th, 1938 with New York - August 20th, 1980 with PAPEETE, Tahiti) is a Chanteur Francophone and American Compositeur . As a singer, he was several successes in the Francophonie.

Biography

Joe is the son of Jules Dassin, Réalisateur of films, and the Hungarian Béatrice Launer, Violoniste virtuoso.

During its childhood, he lives New York and Los Angeles. Because of the Maccarthisme, his/her parents expatrient themselves in Europe. The family moves many times and Joe knows many schools, according to his father in his turnings. He studies with the Institut Rosey in Suisse, passes his vat to Grenoble, then studies the Ethnologie with the Université of Michigan. He returns thereafter in France and works as technician for his father, then made some figurations in his films.

On the suggestion of his first wife Maryse Massiera , who had asked Catherine Régnier, a friend of boarding school, engaged as secretary of an American recording company very recently installed in France CBS Records to engrave a specimen of a ballade which he had interpreted in deprived, he starts to record songs. He becomes the first French to be signed at an American recording company. After beginning difficult, its career takes off finally when Jacques Souplet, the new chairman of CBS France finds that to him which will become its producer and friend, Jacques Plait.

During the Years 1960, it is its first successes: Dalton , Guantanamera , To whistle on the hill and the Fields-Élysées . During the following decade, he is other successes, such America , the Mosquito , If you are called melancholy , the Indian Summer and the Coffee of the three doves . Joe Dassin will record his songs in a great number of languages (in particular in French, English, German, Spanish, Italian and Greek).

He has a first wire, Joshua , born seriously premature, which dies at the five days age.

After the death of Joshua , he divorces and remarie then Christine Delvaux which will give him two wire, Jonathan and Julien .

He died of a Heart attack during holidays with PAPEETE, Tahiti. One can see his tomb with, a cemetery of Hollywood in California.

It is the type-setter (disappeared) who touches the most royalties in France.

Recoveries

Several of its songs were taken again by other artists.

A musical comedy entitled Joe Dassin the great musical festival was played Canada in October and November 2006, with the agreement of the Dassin family. This musical comedy will be in Paris with the Olympia the 26,27 & October 28th, 2007.

An album of recovery at summer carried out by Québécois artists (whose Guy has Lepage, Pierre Lapointe, etc) under the title Salut Joe!.

The group of punk American rock'n'roll NOFX also took again " With the Fields-Elysées" , in French.
