Job is a common French, located in the department of the Puy-de-Dôme and the area Auvergne.

Geography

The culminating point of the Mounts of the Forez is to 1.634 m (according to the chart IGN) with the locality Pierre-on-High, with horse on the commune of Sauvain.

Job profits from a diversified natural space which goes from the scrap-metal of the basin of Ambert, with high thatches of the peaks of the Forez, while passing by vast Forêt S of Sapin S pectinate exploited in grove Jardin ée.

History

A dubious etymology: the official version, included in the Blason chosen by the common one makes derive the name from Job of " Jove " Latin ablative of Jupiter, the " b" being substituted for the " v" ; from where the " Jove Imperat" (by Jupiter I order) blazon.

In 1975, at the time of the alteration work, the remainders of an important habitat Gallo-Roman were put at the day. A great quantity of ceramics shards was found: handles, collars, lids, tripod feet of pots. Among them, fragments of Ceramic S marked of Seal X or punches are characteristic of the decorators of moulds of Gaulle central of second half of the IIe century.

Before the Révolution existed two independent parishes, which met in only one commune: Job and the Turn-Goyon.

Job is a common dynamics, after having counted to 3360 inhabitants in the middle of the XIXe century, the population underwent a long regression bringing it in 1982 to less than 1000 inhabitants. One witnessed a reversal of trend since; with the census of 1999, one counted 1051 inhabitants.
