Joaquín Sorolla there Bastida

Joaquín Sorolla Bastida (1863 - 1923) is a Spanish painter there, born with Valence.

Biography

It was formed initially in its birthplace by Francisco Pradilla, then in Italy and with Paris. At 18 years, it is established with Madrid, studying the chiefs of work of the Musée of Prado. At 22 years, Sorolla obtains a purse to study painting with Rome. It developed its style and its technique to with it.

It obtained its first important success with Another Margaret , which is worth to him the gold medal with Madrid and is sold with the Saint-Louis gallery. It quickly becomes very known and the uncontested leader of the Spanish modern school of painting. Its table the return of the sinners is admired with the living room of Paris and asset by the state for the Musée of Luxembourg.

It gains a medal of honor to the World Fair of Paris in 1900 and is named knight of the Légion of honor. An exposure as of its works - landscapes, portraits - to the gallery Georges Petit in Paris in 1906 brings a glory even larger to him and is worth to him to become Officer of the Legion of Honor. In 1933, Paul Ghetty buys ten of its tables representing of the impressionist scenes of beaches.

After its death in 1923, its widow made gift of many of its tables at the Spanish State. These paintings form the bottom of the Sorolla museum now located in the house of the artist at Madrid.

Works

One finds his tables with the national Gallery of Berlin, in the museums of Venice and Madrid and in many collections deprived in Europe and America, in particular with Buenos Aires. It painted portraits of the king Alphonse and the queen Victoria Eugenie of Spain.
