Joan Gaspart
Joan Gaspart I Solves was born with Barcelona the October 11th 1944. It directs a great hotel group, and is more known to have been Vice-Président of FC Barcelona of 1978 with 2000, then 36e President of FC Barcelona of the July 23rd 2000 with the February 12th 2003.
Happy vice-president
Joan Gaspart was Vice-Président of FC Barcelona during the 22 years of reign of Josep Lluís Núñez. Very popular at that time, one owes him the negotiations of the arrivals of the largest Catalan ground players like Diego Maradona, Romario, Rivaldo or Ronaldo. It is also him which announced has Johan Cruyff its dismissal in May 1996…
Unhappy president
Following the resignation of Josep Lluís Núñez, Joan Gaspart , in its capacity as 1st Vice-president, leads the list of continuity to the election of July 2000. Vis-a-vis him, a frightening opposition resulting from the platform Elefant Blau carried out by the advertizing executive Lluis Bassat supported by the young person Joan Laporta and always the very influential Johan Cruyff. But Joan Gaspart easily gains the setting with 54,87% of the votes.
Its first decision (and first error…) was the sale of the captain Luis Figo with the enemy of always: the Real Madrid. The continuation was a catastrophic management as well on the sporting level as economic:
- No title in 3 seasons of presidency
- 4 trainers whose 2 transfered (the ghostly one Tightened To shoe and that of which nobody wanted before even as it arrives: Shine Van Gaal)
- 199,2 million euros of purchase of players and an exponential evolution of the wage bill
- the explosion of the debt of the club and a fall of the receipts due to the absence of results
The February 12th 2003, Joan Gaspart gives up the presidency of FC Barcelona with its 1st Vice-president Enric Reyna, who will démissonnera in his turn a few months to allow the convocation of new elections later.
Some good things nevertheless
In spite of the enormous social fracture caused by the poor athletic performances and economic of the club, one will retain Joan Gaspart :
- installation of the first stone of the Sporting City Joan Gamper
- the reform of the statutes of the club with a broad consultation of the socios
- the programs Seient Lluire and Race del Barça
- multiplication of the services offered to the socios
- the professionalisation of the executive of the club
