During the summer 2006, Löw is thus named selector for the two next seasons and announces that he wants to continue in with the same philosophy of offensive play that Klinsmann and initiated to him during the World one and that its goal is to gain the Euro 2008. It becomes the tenth selector of the team of Germany, only the third not to have been an international player (after Otto Nerz and Erich Ribbeck). Thereafter the selection beats Switzerland in friendly in February 2007 then the Czech Republic in March 2007 within the framework of the qualifications for the Euro 2008.
