Jiu (river)
The Jiu is a river of the south of the Romania, which is born from the junction of two currents: Eastern Jiu and Western Jiu which come respectively from the mounts Vâlcan and Parâng.
It runs in direction of the south through the Rumanian judeţe of Hunedoara, Gorj and Dolj before being thrown in the Danube with a few kilometers upstream of the Bulgarian city of Oryakhovo, with 331 kilometers of its sources. Its basin represents 10,070 km ². Jiu arose Petroşani, Bumbeşti-Jiu, Târgu Jiu, Filiaşi and Craiova.
The affluents of Jiu are the Susiţa, the Jaleş, the Bistriţa, the Sadu, the Tismana, the Jiltu, the Motru, the Gilort and the Amaradia.
