Jin Mao Tower
The Jin Mao Tower is a Gratte-ciel located at Shanghai. It is in the middle of the " Manhattan chinois" , the new financial district of Pudong. The building was drawn by the cabinet of American architect Skidmore, Owings and Merrill.
Inaugurated in 1998, it is currently the Gratte-ciel highest of China, if one omits the Taipei 101, located at Taiwan. In 2007, the tower occupies the sixth place with the world classification of the skyscrapers. It rises with 421 meters and has 88 stages (8 being symbol of prosperity and money for the Chinese). It should be noticed that the elevators go up at the vertiginous speed of 9 m/s and makes reach the top in less than 50 seconds. It will be exceeded in 2008 by the Shanghai World Financial Center (492 meters, 101 stages), which will be then the livable building highest of China.
A hotel and a restaurant of the Western type (Large Hyatt - 5 stars) occupy the tower starting from the 55e stage. Large Hyatt is currently (2007) the hotel highest of the world. The occupants can benefit from the exceptional sight on Bund, on other bank of the river. The visit of the last stage makes it possible to have a superb panorama of Shanghai, and in the center of the last stage, there is a canopy which gives on the hall of the hotel, about thirty lower stage.
The tower was designed in order to be able to resist to the more violent ones cyclones and earthquakes.
