Jiko (Mononoke)
Jiko is a character of the Cartoon film Japan board Princesse Mononoke , carried out by Hayao Miyazaki.
The monk Jiko east can be the most mysterious character of Mononoke Hime . Indeed, where San appears progressively, Jiko remains surrounded by mystery. Even if one determines rather well his character at the end, its motivations and its past remain unknown. It is known that it is sent by an organization (Sishou ren), but nothing of this one is learned. Miazaki being strongly informed over the time, one can suppose that Sishou ren is inspired by similar organization of the time. Indeed, the end of the time Kamakura, in which the account is, is marked by a great religious dynamism, and the rise of many sects (rinzai, soto, sect of the Lotus or sect nichiren,…), and one can thus suppose that Sishou ren is a sect of this type. That will seem probable considering Jiko is monk (it is made call Jiko-bou, that is to say Jiko the monk). Its statute in this organization is undoubtedly placed rather high, with the sight of the troops which it orders and of the confidence placed in him. What one knows of his motivations is less vague. He wants the head of the god stag, who gives, appears he, the eternal life. Within sight of the dialog which it has with lady Eboshi, one can suppose that it wishes to bring it back to the Emperor. But one does not explain why send a relatively secret organization to achieve this task.
Jiko can seem a " méchant". To arrive has its ends, it is particularly justified and does not move back in front of nothing. It handles lady Eboshi to arrive to its goal, while making him believe that while killing Shishi Gami, it will get rid of all the animals of a blow. In fact, he says it itself when it is a question of killing a god, better is worth to let somebody do it in your place .
It remains that Jiko, following the example lady Eboshi, is not a character Manichean. To its first meeting with Ashitaka, it will help it whereas it is still lost in a new world. He guides it and helps it to find the drill of the god stag. The official site specifies " in the hope that this one leads it to its proie" , but Jiko is not bad until the end. Miazaki said it besides: Jiko is like much Japanese today: individually, they are perfectly beautiful people, but when they unite an organization, they become cruel. Enough cruel to cut the head of a god.
Jiko is followed by two groups of hunters: Karasara ren (company of the paper sunshades) and Jibashiri (those which crawl).
Karasara ren is formed soldiers wearing same clothing as Jiko, which lets think that they make parties of Sishou ren. Using people of Tatara in the war against wild boars, they use grenades and mines to cut down them in great quantity, making fun of the losses of with dimensions the blacksmiths. To fight in the forest, they prefer poisoned blowpipes much more discrete hidden in their sunshades. Moreover these sunshades have a direct relationship with the use of the weapons with powder: they prevent that the wicks are wet by the rain.
Jibashiri are the scouts employed by Jiko. They use skins of animals died to camouflage their odor and thus to be able to be relatively quiet in the drill. Their name is relative has their manner of moving while crawling to be more discrete.
In spite of its at the very least ungrateful physique, Jiko-Bou is a large leader and a nimble combatant. In spite of its infamous motivations and its manners, there remains an attaching character, near to the monk of Fabliau per moment.
