Jigme Singye Wangchuck
Jigme Singye Wangchuck , (to pronounce Jimi Singgê 'Wangchu) is a former king of the Bhutan. It was born on November 11th 1955 and reached the throne in 1972, the 17 years age, after the death of his father, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck and abdicated the December 14th 2006. It was crowned on June 2nd 1974 at the time of a ceremony marked by the invitation of foreign dignitaries, thus announcing the one long period end of insulation of the country. It is also called " Druk Gyalpo" (" King Dragon"). Its education took place in Bhutan and the the United Kingdom.
It continued the policy of his father, namely a slow modernization while trying to preserve the Bhutanese culture. In 1988, it founded the policy of the Driglam Namzha (Label and good mannerss) which forces all the citizens to wear traditional clothing as a public and the training of the Dzongkha (the national language) in the schools. In 1988 it voluntarily reduced the perimeter of its absolute capacity. It controls from now on with the councils of the government. At the end 2003, it ordered the first Bhutanese military countryside since good more than one century to expel the separatists of Assam who used the Bhutanese territory for launching raids against their targets in India (cf Histoire of Bhutan). Campaigns also were launched against of the separatists Nepalese in the south of the country.
By all the means, it maintains a lifestyle simple - preferring to work in a small hut out of wooden out of the capital of Thimphu, rather than in the palate fortress used by its four queens (all sisters) and the National Assembly. It has 10 children (five wire and five girls) of which his/her oldest son, the Prince Dasho Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. Several of his/her children received an education abroad.
The December 14th 2006, it abdicates in favor of his/her son Prince Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, putting thus in practice its formula according to which Pourquoi to crown a heir only when the nation is in mourning of the last king? .
