Jicky de Guerlain

Jicky is a perfume created in 1889 by Aimé Guerlain. It is composed of Fragrance S of wood associated with others Aromate S like the Lavande, the iris, the Coumarine with odor of fouin, and the balsams. It was the first perfume to use products of synthesis in its composition.

But, its secrecy was to add a light animal note resulting from anal glands of the Civette, small cat-like. At the time, the presence of this animal note shocked the female customers diverted by this new fragrance in rupture with any known bouquet, whereas this new perfume was adopted by the dandies who raffolèrent some. It is necessary to await 1912 so that the women's magazines redécouvre this perfume and finally the encense.

In 1921, at the time of a creative impulse, its nephew Jacques Guerlain, used a bottle of Jicky in which it poured “to see”, a good amount of ethylvanillin, a vanilla of synthesis. After removal of aromatics of wood and Lavande he added Bergamote, to manage to create the Guerlinade become a base of perfumery, employed for the first time in the development of his new perfume Shalimar, presented in 1925 during the International exhibition of decorative arts of Paris, with the Large palace.
