Jia Kui

Jia Kui (174 - Ca 230) was a Chinese minister and general under the authority of the lord of war CAD CAD at the time of the end of the Dynastie Han and the Royaume of Wei at the time of the beginning of the period of the Three Kingdoms in ancient China. In turn, to the head of the administration of a great number of counties and districts, the history often exposes it like the man having saved the general CAD Xiu during an invasion of the Royaume of Wu having turned out badly.

Biography

Endowed in martial arts and the military tactics, he was chief of the county of Jiang in the district of Hedong. In year 202, its county was attacked by Guo Yuan, a subordinate of Yuan Shang. When resistance started to weaken, certain old was appropriate with this last to deliver the city in exchange of a guarantee that no evil would be inflicted in Jia Kui. Once this agreement agreed upon, Jia Kui refused to enter to the service of Guo Yuan and was imprisoned in Huguan, but succeeds in escaping with the assistance from an accomplice. It became by after prefect of the county of Mianchi and later, Grand Administrator of the district of Hongnong under CAD CAD when this last entered in war against My Chao.

A few years later, it was promoted at the post of Secretary as a chief of the Prime Minister and of officer in charge with the admonition and the arbitration. When CAD pi became emperor of Wei, it was successively named Grand Administrator of Yeling, Grand Administrator of Weijun and prefect of Yuzhou. For its remarkable efforts Jia Kui accepted the title of Lord Second-rate. He was also a very useful general by his achievements of which, inter alia, the restoration of weapons, the reorganization of the armed forces, the construction of irrigation canals as well as the inflicted defeat with Lu Fan of the kingdom of Wu. For the whole of these merits, it was promoted “General Who Establishes Prestige” and Lord of Yangli.

In year 228, under the reign of CAD Rui, it belonged to an invasion of Wu by ordering an army on Ruxu whereas CAD Xiu, receiving the tender of Zhou Fang, went to Huan in the district of Lujiang. Feeling the danger of a false defection, Jia Kui went to the rescue of CAD Xiu, which it saved by ensuring the retirement, undergoing a heavy defeat. Shortly after these incidents, Jia Kui died and accepted the posthumous title of Respectful Lord.

Its character in the novel

In the novel Histoire of the Three Kingdoms writes by Luo Guanzhong, Jia Kui, which occupies a leading role in the invasion of Wu in year 228, is initially presented to the beginning of chapter 79 as an imperial officer of First rank ( jianyi daifu ) whereas it goes voluntary to dissuade CAD Zhang to dispute the rise of CAD pi to the royalty of Wei.

When CAD Zhang arrives at the doors of Ye at the head of an army of 100.000 men, Jia Kui leaves to its meeting and asks him:

“does Your Seigniory come to attend the funeral or to dispute the succession?

- Only for the funerary services. I do not have any hostile intention.

- In this case, why brought an army? ”

Vis-a-vis these interrogations, CAD Zhang withdraws its personal guard, pays its regards with his/her older brother and its army entrusts to him.

Later, as reports it the historical accounts, Jia Kui takes share with the invasion of the kingdom of Wu on three faces carried out by Wei in year 228. The novel however more puts the emphase on the part played by Jia Kui in this conflict.

Indeed, at chapter 96, Jia Kui warns the Emperor opposite the defection of Zhou Fang of Wu, which it describes as trick to attract the soldiers. Following this warning, it is also sent to the face to assist CAD Xiu with Sima Yi. Feeling the danger, he warns CAD Xiu of his fears and asks him to wait until he leads an attack to the side before engaging the enemy with Huan. CAD Xiu the rabroue then, thinking that he wants to fly to him of the merit, but Jia Kui insite by saying to him that the defection of Zhou Fang is a fraud. CAD Xiu, in anger, then orders the setting with dead of Jia Kui under pretext which its assertions reduce moral troops. However, in front of the call of several commanders, Jia Kui is saved, although put side for forwarding.

The continuation is appreciably the same one as the historical version of the facts; CAD Xiu is made trap and sudden heavy losses while Jia Kui goes to its help, ensuring its retirement.
