Jiří Josef Camel
Jiří Josef Camel or Kamel is a member about the Jésuite S and a Moravian Botaniste , born the April 21st 1661 with Brno and dead the May 2nd 1706 with Manila.
It enters the Society of Jesus and becomes brother-lay in 1682. Although it is sometimes called Père Camellus , it is not on it is ordered priest. He works at the school of pharmacy of Brno, Jindřichův Hradec and Český Krumlov. In 1687, it is sent in the Filipino where it remains during seventeen years.
He is the author of 19 treaties which make known in Europe the fauna and the flora of Philippines. He forwards them to John Ray (1627-1705) which makes them appear in appendix of its third volume of sound Historia Plantarum in 1704. James Petiver (v. 1663-1718) made appear in its newspaper Gazophylacei naturae and artis (1702-1709) some of its publications as well as the drawings of the plants described by Camel. More than 400 drawings are preserved today by the British Museum and 260 by the library of the university of Leuwen. Carl von Linné (1707-1778) dedicates to him of the the CAMELIA .
