Jezus-Eik

The village of Our-Lady-with-Wood (in French) or Jezus-Eik (in Dutch, literally the oak of Jesus ) formed almost entirely part of the common Belgian of Overijse. It was not a commune before fusions, and a small portion is in fact on the commune of Auderghem. It is limited on the one hand by the highway E411 Brussels-Namur and on the other hand by the Forêt of Look after ( Zoniënwoud in Dutch). In the past, Our-lady-with-Wood exerted an important attraction like place of pilgrimage. Today, the village owes its reputation especially at its gastronomy and its many restaurants.

History

According to the legend, at the place where is today our-Lady-with-Wood church, drew up a giant oak which had been struck several times by the lightning. It was called the Duivelseik (oak of the devil). It was also called the Jezukens-eik (oak of Jesus) in reference to a cross which had been affixed there front. Around 1637, the family Van de Kerckhoven made there install a statue of the Virgin, honouring thus a promise made to the father, deceased two years before. Quickly, the noise of miraculous cures by the statue starts to run. Many pilgrims flow on the site. One sets up there initially a vault, then a church.
