Jewish legion

The Jewish Légion is a project consisting in constituting a Jewish army which would defend the Jewish interests in Palestine, within the framework of the foundation of a Jewish national hearth in this area.

This project was implemented under British direction during the First World War. The Jewish units will be dissolved in 1918 and 1919, but the claim of a Jewish legion continued to be constant until in the years 1930.

The body of the muleteers of Sion

The idea of a Jewish military force combatant in the rows of the allies was born in the spirit from two persons in charge Zionists, Zeev Vladimir Jabotinsky and Joseph Trumpeldor, during December 1914. In their idea, such a force would take part in the conquest of the Palestine, then under domination of the Ottoman Empire, for the benefit of the Western allies, which would then agree to support the movement Zionist in Palestine. In 1914, such a support was not acquired. Certain persons in charge or militant Zionists (like David Ben Gourion), leant besides rather towards a support for the Ottoman Empire.
