Jets to Brazil
Jets to Brazil (1997-2003) was a group of Indie American rock'n'roll, formed in 1997 by Blake Schwarzenbach and Jeremy Chatelain (of Handsome) after the separation of Jawbreaker, where Schwarzenbach sang.
They then recruited Chris Daly, of Texas Is The Reason, like beater. It would be Daly which would have suggested the name of the group, whose origin is perhaps in a poster seen in the film Breakfast At Tiffany' S (inspired of the news éponyme of Truman Capote).
Orange Rhyming Dictionary leaves in 1998 on Jade Tree Records, and makes it possible Jets to Brazil to be success. The group is then joined by a second guitarist, Brian Maryansky, which takes part in the recording of Four Cornered Night , is left in 2000. In 2002 leaves their last album, Perfecting Loneliness - whose Blake said: “ It is beautiful and it is sad, but it is all that I have. ” -, one year before Jets to Brazil does not separate for undetermined reasons. At the end of the autumn 2002, Chris Daly had left the group, had replaced by Matt Torrey de Mk Ultra (1994-1999, the old group of the singer John Vanderslice) in spring 2003.
Blake Schwarzenbach is today English professor with Hunter College with New York. Jeremy Lord of the manor, sings to him and composes for its new group, Cub Country, with the sound with crossed Indie and alt-country, at the origin a side-project created in 2000, and in which Chris Daly and Brian Maryansky take part today. It also acts as bass player for the group of alternate Métal Helmet.
In spite of its short existence, Jets to Brazil became a worship group, which exerted an appreciable effect on many musicians of the scene Punk like scene Indie, that it is thanks to its required melodies or with the charisma and the talents of writing of Blake Schwarzenbach. Of its past in Jawbreaker with the experiment Jets to Brazil (which does not sound absolutely like the punk one), this one threw a bridge between these two kinds of music.
