Jesus of Montreal
Jesus of Montreal is a Québécois film of Denys Arcand, left in 1989.
Synopsis
The priest of the Oratoire Saint-Joseph urges young Daniel in order to assemble a modern version of the Passion of Christ. This last will join together a small troop of amateurs but their free interpretation will displease with the religious authorities, which will try to stop the spectacle, in spite of popular success. The film establishes a parallel striking between the life of Daniel, the young director, and the life of Jesus. Many scenes of the Évangile are thus reproduced in Montreal of the end of the 20th century. One finds, transposed, all the outstanding episodes of the life of the Christ, like the Baptême, the Tentation of Christ, the miracles, the Résurrection.
