History

With the crossroads of Roman ways, the parish of Saint-Thonan is detached from parishes themselves resulting from the primitive parish from Ploebevoaz (Guipavas) which extended from Landerneau to Brest. In the neighborhoods of XVème century, the seigniory of Botiguéry was constituted.

The vault of Botiguéry, the manor therearone and the church date from XVIème century. The latter is built in 1586, equipped with a bell-tower in 1609, a stoup in 1747 and a sacristy in 1785.

In 1786, Monseigneur of Walk plans to modify the limits of the parish of Saint-Thonan, too poor, either by removing it, or by increasing it. It is the second solution which was considered.

In 1790, Saint-Thonan becomes a commune. The following year, it is increased by the annexation of part of the old parish of Beuzit-Conogan (of Guichégu with PEN-Bouillen).

In 1834, the municipal council wishes a school, but the resources are modest.

In 1835, a presbytery is built close to the church.

After 1870, the commune is equipped with a place of the borough, a school and a new church. The school is open in 1878 (in the place of the current town hall). Mixed, teaching is ensured by a nun. The new church is built on the site of old, but in opposite direction. Its bell-tower is high between 1890 and 1892.

The school is laicized in 1902. However, a private school intended for the girls is open in 1929.

A town hall is built in 1952, near the current one. The old town hall was in hiring on the place of the borough.

In 1956, the public school is closed " temporairement".

In 1973, the expressway Brest-Morlaix, according to the layout of a Roman way, divides the commune in two. An exchanger is inaugurated in 1981 and one zone of activities is created with its accesses.

In 1979, the hamlets of Mestallic, Lesnon and Cosglouët are attached to Saint-Thonan.

In 1987, the versatile room is completed. The new town hall is installed in the old public school at the end of 1988.

Municipal life

Mayors:

  • Claude Labasque (1971-1977)
  • German Lagadec (since 1977)

Elected official city council man in 1971, Germain Lagadec succeeds Claude Labasque at the post of mayor in 1977. With the head of an open list in 1983, he is re-elected pure a second mandate.

In 1989, two lists introduce by the votes voters. The first, under the name of “Saint-Thonan”, carried out tomorrow German Lagadec, gains little the majority. The list dominates only of one seat the list “Together for Saint-Thonan”, carried by Eugene Prédour and François Calvarin.

In 1992, following strong tensions, the seven elected officials of the opposition resign in block, thus causing anticipated elections. With only one list of participants, seven new city council men, supported by the mayor, are elected.

In June 1995, two lists clash again: Germain Lagadec carrying the list “Saint-Thonan tomorrow” and Eugene Prédour head of a “open list for the gathering”. The outgoing mayor is taken back, supported on nine seats out of fifteen, against six for the opposition.

In 2001, Germain Lagadec carries out again a list “Saint-Thonan opening and dialog” which gains the totality of the seats as of the first turn. A “open list for the democracy”, made up of seven candidates, carried out by Patrick Huon, does not obtain elected officials.
