Jerzy Popieluszko
Jerzy Popieluszko was a catholic priest Polish born the September 14th 1947 and died in 1984 in Poland.
Biography
After the proclamation of the state of siege in 1981, joining together famous Jerzy Popieluszko in its parish of Warsaw of the masses of the thousands of faithful, during which he pronounces sermons condemning the mode in place.
The October 19th 1984, the Popieluszko Father, 37 years old, is removed by three officers of SB (Internal security) close to Wloclawek, to 120 km in the North-West of Warsaw. After torturebeing tortured with death, its body was thrown in the the Vistula.
The three authors of the murder, the captain Grzegorz Piotrowski, lieutenant Leszek Pekala and lieutenant Waldemar Chmielewski, were condemned to custodial sentences in 1985 (respectively 25,15 and 14 years). Their superior, colonel Adam Pietruszko, was also condemned to 25 years of prison. The December 14th 1987, the supreme court of Poland their made profit from an important handing-over of sorrow. A doubt remains on the silent partners.
The Popieluszko Father symbolizes with the eyes of the Poles the common fight of the democratic opposition and the Catholic church against a totalitarian mode.
