Gerald R. " Jerry" Sanders (born in 1950) is an American politician, member of the Republican party which was of 1993 with 1999 the chief of the police force of San Diego, California, before being elected Maire of San Diego the November 8th 2005.

Married to Rana Sampson, he lives in the district of Kensington with San Diego with his two daughters LISA, 21 years, and Jamie, 19 years.

After 26 last years within the department of the police force to fight against the crime, he becomes chief of the police force in 1993; during the 6 years which follow, the rate of criminality dropped by 40%.

Sanders became then the president of " United Way off San Diego County" , an administration at the time decried for its bureaucracy and its operating costs.

In July 2002, Sanders is named with the direction of the Croix-Rouge of San Diego. Its action is particularly appreciated at the time of the large fires of November 2003 which devastate the county of San Diego.

Member of the Republican party, it presents himself to the town hall of San Diego, évince his adversaries at the time them primary to find itself vis-a-vis Donna Frye, a democratic municipal adviser.

The November 8th 2005, it is elected with 54% of the votes compared with 45% with Donna Frye and took up duty the December 5th.
