Jerome Demers
Jerome Demers (1774-1853) is a priest, a professor, a superior of teaching, a general vicar and a Canadian author.
Born in Saint Nicolas's Day, county of Lévis, on August 1st, 1774, of Jean-Baptiste Demers, farmer, and of Genevieve Loignon, it made her studies in Quebec and Montreal. It was ordered by Mgr Denaut, on August 24th, 1798.
With the Seminar of Quebec, he was professor (1798-1800), director of the pupils (1800-1805), prosecutor (1805-1815), superior (1815-1821), prosecutor (1821-1824), then again more senior (1824-1830).
He exerts the functions of ecclesiastical superior C the Hôtel-Dieu of Quebec (1820-1848), Large-vicar of the bishop of Quebec (1825-1853), still superior of the seminar (1830-1842), lecturer (1842-1849) then to advise of the archbishop of Quebec. (1850-1853)
He is the author of treaties of philosophy, physics, astronomy and architecture to the use of his pupils. It deceased in Quebec on May 17th, 1853. A house of the seminar of Quebec is named in its honor.
