Jeffrey Thomas Porcaro , known as “Jeff”, born on April 1st 1954 with Hartford, Connecticut and dead the August 5th 1992 with Hidden Hills, California, is a North-American Batteur . It is one of the founders, with David Paich, of the rock group Toto.

Biography

He is the son of the famous percussionnist Joe Porcaro, the brother of the Bassiste Mike Porcaro and of the Claviériste Steve Porcaro. He founds the group Toto with the clavierist David Paich, and engages the Guitariste Steve Lukather, the bass player David Hungate and the singer Bobby Kimball.

Its discography is impressive: it counts several hundreds of discs. It started to record whereas it was only 17 years old. Among all the people with whom he worked, one can quote Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Lionel Richie, Christopher Cross, Claude Nougaro like Steely daN.

Its very recognizable style, making the good share at the rates/rhythms Shuffle, illustrated the band its beginning of the year 1980. Among the most representative songs, one can quote The Girl Is Mine (Mr. Jackon, P. McCartney), whose rhythmic resemblance to Mornin (Al Jarreau) is seizing, or Rosanna ( Toto IV ), which is one of the best examples of the technique of the “ghost notes”. Following Rosanna , the term of “Shuffle Porcaro” was born. He liked to say “Shuffle Purdie” in reference to Bernard Purdie, one of his Masters.

He played with many artists throughout the world: Japanese artists such as Tank or ANRI; French artists such as Claude Nougaro, Charts, Emile Wandelmer; Hispanic artists such as Shine Miguel, Sergio Mendes, but also of the artists like David Pack, Michael MacDonald, Manhattan Transfer, Steely daN, Christopher Cross, Don Henley, Love and Money, Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, Paul Young.

August 5th, 1992, a few days before the exit of the album Kingdom off desired , Jeff makes an heart attack whereas it passes a Insecticide in the garden of its house of Hidden Hills, close to Los Angeles. The helps are alerted but unfortunately, will be able nothing to make. Jeff dies a few hours later.

Jeff is buried the August 10th 1992 with the Forest Lawn Memorial Park of Hollywood Hills. More than thousand people pay homage to him. Heads of the procession, his/her friends Mike Baird, Jim Keltner, John Jr Robinson, Harvey Mason and Lenny Castro accompany it in his last residence.
