History
The commune was born by ordinance from the king Charles X on June 1st, 1828, (C-W communication Jean Sagnère), starting from territories distracted to some extent with the commune of Saint-Just-in-Low, and for the remainder with the commune of Chalmazel. Moreover the bells of the church of Jeansagnière belonged before to Saint-Just-in-Low. As of the Legal settlement, some villages of " the mountain of Just" Saint; had been set up in branch of the parish of Saint-Just-in-Low. The priest, sent in 1805 by the Fesch cardinal, archbishop of Lyon, found neither church nor presbytery and had to be turned over some; also, in 1805, in order to be able to accommodate their priest, the inhabitants of the village of Chaize made gift of a ground, and built with their expenses a provisional church, which appears in the Napoleonean land register exactly with the site of the current church. However, the competition is large between the villagers of Chaize, who hold the chief town, and those of Jeansagnière, which give the name to the commune; one even came from there to the hands. Also, in 1840, the mayor presents it to the prefect a request for name change, proposer whom the commune is called " from now on; Chaize-Migois" ; those of the hamlet of Jeansagnière protest, want to allot the chief town, and to build the new church there since the old threat ruins. The authorization of name change is granted by the prefect and the general advice in 1841. However, for reasons which we are unaware of, the chief town will remain nevertheless with Chaize where the new church will be built in 1872, and the name of the commune will remain unchanged. For the construction of the town hall and school, it will be necessary to wait the XXe century.Nevertheless history of " Jeansagnière" is older since undergrounds dating from the Life century were discovered. Because of the dating of the undergrounds and history of the time, one can think that the latter were used during the wars of religion. As for the name " Jeansagnière" the origin is due to a typical character of this place at the time. Indeed a certain Jean was specialized in the demolition of the pigs, and its knowledge to make was required in all the area by the families which wished to perpetuate the annual tradition which was of: " to kill the cochon". " Jean Saigneur" was thus rather famous in the area, and the hamlet where it resided quickly took for name this same nickname. But in the local language " Jean Saigneur" became Jeansagnière.
