Jeanne of the Brabant
Jeanne of the Brabant , born the June 24th 1322, died with Brussels on November 1st 1406, was duchess of the Brabant and of Limbourg of 1355 with 1406. She was girl of Jean III, duke of the Brabant and Limbourg, and Marie d' Évreux.
She married in first weddings in 1334 Guillaume II of Avesnes (1307 † 1345), count de Hainaut and of Holland. She had only one son, Guillaume, dead young
Widow, it remaria in March 1352 with Venceslas Ier of Bohemia (1337 † 1383), duke of Luxembourg.
His/her father died in December 1355. In January 1356, the '' Blijde Inkomst '' was promulgated in order to maintain the union of the Duché of the Brabant and to avoid a division between the girls of Jean III. Jeanne as elder, became duchess of the Brabant. Louis II of Male, count de Flandre, married to Marguerite of the Brabant, girl junior by Jean III, protested and attacked the Brabant. With the support of the emperor Charles IV of Luxembourg (the older brother of Venceslas), they succeeded in taking advantage of their rights and preserving the duchy.
Without child of its two marriages, it indicated to succeed its great nephew to him Antoine of Burgundy.
