Jeanne of Burgundy (v. 1293-1349)
Attention: not to confuse with Jeanne of Burgundy, also Queen of France (1316-1322), wife of Philippe V, known as Philippe Length . This cousin and homonym were in addition, of her own boss, countess of Burgundy and countess of Artois. ----
Jeanne of Burgundy , called Jeanne Lame the , born towards 1293, died in December 1349, was, by marriage, queen of France of 1328 with 1349.
It was the girl of the duke of Burgundy Robert II (1248-1306) and of Agnès of France (1260-1325).
In July 1313, it married Philippe de Valois , future king de France under the name of Philippe VI, (1293-1350), wire of Charles de Valois (1270-1325), count de Valois, and of Marguerite of Anjou (1273-1299).
By this marriage, it was successively titrated countess of Maine (1315-1328), countess of Valois and countess of Anjou (1325-1328) then queen of France (1328-1349).
Of this union nine children come:
- Jean II of France (1319-1364), known as Jean the Good , king de France (1350-1364)
- Marie de France (1326- September 22nd, 1333)
- Louis (January 17th, 1328 - id.)
- Louis (June 8th - June 23rd, 1330)
- Jean (1332- October 2nd, 1333)
- NR… (May 28th, 1335 - id.)
- Philippe de France (July 1st, 1336 - September 1st, 1375), count de Valois (1336-1375) and first duke of Orleans (1344-1375)
- Jeanne (1337-id.)
- NR… (1343-id.)
During the War One hundred Year old, Jeanne of Burgundy was brought to exert the Régence kingdom. Since 1338, Philippe VI, in the obligation to move constantly to fight battle, entrusted the full powerss in his absence to him. This function attracted to him a quite bad reputation, accentuated by its deformity - Jeanne was lame - sign of a possible malefic signature according to some.
Jeanne of Burgundy died on September 12th 1348, perhaps pulled by an epidemic of plague.
