Jeanne de Chantal
Jeanne de Chantal , born Jeanne-Francoise Frémyot , (born the January 23rd 1572 with Dijon, dead the December 13rd 1641 with Mills) was a French nun, founder of the Ordre of the Visitation, canonized by the Roman Catholic church the July 16th 1767.
Biography
His/her father, President with mortar of the Parliament of Burgundy, Maria in 1592 with Christophe de Rabutin, baron de Chantal. They had six children of which four survived. The elder one of them was the father of the Marquise of Sévigné.In 1601, her husband died, victim of an accident of hunting. The young widow, feeling called by God, put herself in the search of a spiritual guide. She made wish, though young person still, of not to marry, and, after having established his children, she devoted himself very whole to charity works ". In 1604 it met François de Sales, bishop of Geneva in residence with Annecy, come with Dijon to preach the Lent: it opened with him and it accepted to direct it.
In 1610, released from its family obligations, it joined François de Sales with Annecy to found under its impulse a new congregation, the Ordre of the Visitation, of which it founded the first convent with Annecy.
Starting from 1618, following a serious disease, it launched out in the establishment of new convents. After the death of François the Dirty ones in 1622, it only dealt with the thirteen Monastère S of the order. This order devoted to contemplation comprised in 1641, with the death of Jeanne de Chantal, 87 Monastère S in all Europe. Today it gathers 3.500 Visitandines in 135 convents distributed throughout the world.
After the death of François the Dirty ones, she sought council near Vincent of Paul and Saint-Cyran in 1640.
She died in 1641, a few days after her return, of a tiring voyage in litter, Moulins to Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer, where she had been called to discuss with the queen France Anne Austria.
Although suspected a time of sympathies Jansenists and Quiétisme, Jeanne-Francoise Frémyot de Chantal was béatifiée in 1751 and canonized by Clément XIII the July 16th 1767. She is the owner of the mothers, the widows and the women carrying the first name France or Francine .
Its mortal remains is preserved with that of François the Dirty ones in the Basilique of the Visitation at Annecy.
One honors it the August 12th since 2003. It left Lettres , which were published in 1660 (Paris, in-8°; 1833,2 vol. in-8°). Its Vie was written by J. - M. - S. Daurignac and by Francoise Madeleine de Changy. Madam de Sévigné was her grand-daughter.
