Comment

The first characteristic of film is to be a musical comedy, at one time when the kind disappeared for a long time in the French cinema. Turning the back on conventions, the film declines its pieces on as many rates/rhythms and different tempos: world, haversack, have cappella, tango, lovesong, aria, beguine, etc without any bond set of themes, but by composing a varied mosaic.

This diversity echoes the construction of the film which integrates a bluette full with lightness in a precise and painful social reality. This shock of the kinds returns directly to the universe of Jacques Demy (to which a homage is paid in the shape of couples carrying out in background of the steps of two in the purest style of the Demoiselles… , of the first song of Jeanne who never says not to have dreamed of the man of her life, contrary to Delphine of the Young ladies, or of the presence of her son, Mathieu Demy in the role of the formidable boy), of which it gives to the last style the bases.
