the very honourable Jeanne Mathilde Saved , CP, DC, CM, CD, D.Sc (Hon.) born Benoit the April 26th 1922, with Industrial tribunal (Saskatchewan), and died the January 26th 1993, with Montreal (Quebec), was a political woman and a Canadian Journaliste . It was moreover the 23e general gouverneure of the Canada (1984-1990).
Youth
It made its studies with the Notre-Dame convent of the Rosary with Ottawa, then with the Université of Ottawa. At the 20 years age, it becomes the national president of catholic Youth coed. After having married Maurice Saved on September 24th, 1948 in Ottawa, they move in Europe. It will obtain a diploma in French Civilization there of the Université of Paris.Of return to the Canada, it starts a career in journalism with Radio-Canada, which will be spread out over twenty years.
Political career
In 1972, she is elected appointed for the Liberal party of Canada. Thereafter, it is named minister of state with Sciences and technology. It will be the first woman coming from Quebec to occupy a ministerial position. Re-elected in July 1974, she sees herself entrusting the Department of the Environment. In 1975, it is named with the Ministère of the Businesses external as a minister of the Communications for the Francophonie. By afterwards, it will be the president of the House of Commons, another first for a woman.
General Gouverneure of Canada
In 1984, it is named “General governor of Canada”. She is the first woman to occupy this station, of which she will however always refuse the feminization. In addition to the loads specifically attached to this station, she will be concerned with young people, Paix and National unit.After having finished its mandate in 1990, it and its spouse are established with Montreal, where it sets up the Fondation Jeanne Sauvé for the youth, which is devoted especially to the gifted children.
She is member founder of the Research institute in political sciences of Canada.
