Jean V of Roubaix (Ca 1369 - 1449) (or Jehan of Roubaix ), knight of the Ordre of the Golden Fleece was Seigneur of Roubaix. He carried, like all the lords of Roubaix, of hermine to the chief of mouths .
A Jean of Roubaix is also killed with the Bataille of Nicopolis in 1396.
Biography
Jean made speak about him, for the first time, at the time of the Bataille of Roosebecke (on the current commune of Westrosebeke, November 27th 1382). He fought the Sarrasins with Carthage, visited the Holy Lieux in Palestine. Its many successes did of him one of the most powerful lords of the time, as well financially as by the influence of which he enjoyed near the Ducs Burgundy. He was the First Chamberlain of the Duchy of Burgundy under Jean-Without-Fear (Jean Ier of Burgundy) and preserved his post office at dead this one with the profit of his son, Philippe III of Burgundy says Philippe the Good. It is thus quite naturally that the latter sent it to Portugal in 1428, in order to negotiate the marriage of the Duke with Isabelle of Portugal. In the embassy, one found a famous member, Jan Van Eyck which was, at the time, the painter of the Duke.
The marriage took place with Bruges, the January 10th 1430. At the time of the records, the Duke created the Ordre of the Golden Fleece, the first Knights were (in the order) Philippe the Good, Guillaume of Vienna, Regnier Pot and Jean of Roubaix…
Jean died in 1449, his son, Pierre of Roubaix, succeeded to him as Chambellan of the Duchy of Burgundy.
