Biography

After having joined the Order of the minor brothers, it is ordered priest. He teaches then the Théologie with the Université of Bologna, then of Naples. He attends as expert the I {{er}} council of Lyon, in 1245. In the general chapter of its kind of 1247, held with Lyon, it is elected general minister.

Its first task is to visit the various provinces of the order. In England, it is received by Edouard III and in France, by Louis IX, which also attends the general chapter of Sens. In 1249, it convenes a general chapter with Metz, where it promulgates new statutes, aiming at alleviating the quarrel between Spirituels (partisans of the absolute poverty instituted by François d' Assise) and Conventual (partisans of an evolution of the order).

In parallel, the orders beggars undergo the lightnings of the Université of Paris. Jean works then with Humbert de Romans, main general of the Dominicain S, with a better collaboration between the two orders. In 1256, Gerard of Borgo San Donnino, friend of Jean, is denounced by the Sorbonne and is condemned by the pope for joachimism. Jean, compromised, must convene a general chapter with Rome, in 1257. He gives up his general post of minister with Bonaventure, to withdraw itself in a hermitage.

In spite of its withdrawal, he is shown in his turn of joachimism. Its lawsuit is informed with Pieve by Bonaventure itself and the cardinal Orsini, guard of the order. Discharged, thanks to the soulien of the Cardinal Ottobono Fieschi, the future pope Hadrian V, it turns over in its hermitage. In 1289, 80 years old, it requires of the pope Nicolas IV the permission to preach in Greece. He dies on a journey.

He is béatifié in 1777 by Pie VI.
