Jean of Lorraine (1498-1550)

Jean of Lorraine , born with Bar-le-Duc the April 9th 1498, died with the Neuvy-on-Loire the May 18th 1550, was wire of Rene II, duke of Lorraine and of Bar, and Filipino of Gueldre.

Intended for an ecclesiastical career, it was named in 1501 cooadjutor of its uncle Henri of Lorraine.

It was cardinal and equipped with several évêchés and archbishop's palaces:

  • bishop of Metz of 1505 to 1543, then of 1548 to 1550
  • bishop of Toul of 1517 to 1524, then of 1532 to 1537 and 1542 to 1543
  • bishop of Narbonne of 1520 to 1550
  • bishop of Thérouanne of 1521 to 1535
  • bishop of Verdun of 1523 to 1544
  • archbishop of Valence of 1533 with????
  • archbishop of Rheims of 1533 to 1538
  • archbishop of Albi (Jean IV) of 1535 with its death.
  • bishop of Die of 1536 with????
  • bishop of Agen (Jean VII) of 1538 with its death.
  • bishop of Nantes (Jean V) of August 18th, 1542 to its death.
  • archbishop of Lyon of 1537 to 1539

It did not preserve the totality of its dioceses and gave up some of them. It was also equipped with several abbeys: Gorze, Saint-Mansuy with Toul, Varangeville and Lay-Saint-Christophe. In 1520, it attends the interview of the Camp of the Gold Cloth.
