Jean de Montagu

Jean de Montagu or Jean de Montaigu , born towards 1349, dead the October 17th 1409, was a Politician and Mécène French. He carried the titles of vidame of Lannois, lord of Montagu in Bush hammer and Marcoussis.

He is the son of Girard de Montagu, secretary of Charles V, and Biette Cassinel, sister of Cassinel Ferry, archbishop of Rheims.

He married Jacqueline of the Barn, girl of the President of the Parliament of Paris, Etienne of the Barn, and Marie of Wood. From this union was born Charles de Montagu, husband of Catherine d' Albret, girl of the constable of France Charles I of Albret, and Elisabeth de Montagu, marries of Jean VI of Lorroy and Pierre of Bourbon-Courtyards.

Superintendent of finances of Charles VI, it acquired an immense fortune which will be worth to him the enmity of the duke of Burgundy, Philippe Bold the and of king de Navarre.

The October 7th 1409, it was stopped, on the order of Jean without Peur, wire and successor of Philippe the Bold one, and, after a summary lawsuit, decapitated with the Markets of Paris the October 17th 1409 and its body then hung with the Gibet de Montfaucon.

Three years later, his/her Charles son obtained the rehabilitation of his memory and a sumptuous tomb was set up in the church of the monastery of Célestins of Marcoussis, which it had made build to thank for covering by Charles VI of the reason, after the tragedy business of the forest of Mans.

Of 1404 with 1408, during 4 years, Jean de Montagu devoted most of its fortune to build its castle, considered as one of more architectural great successes of the reign of Charles VI, the monastery of Célestins and it made rebuild the chorus of the church of Marcoussis.

His/her brother, Gerard de Montagu was bishop of Paris. His/her other brother was Jean de Montagu, bishop of Chartres and archbishop of Sens.
