Jean de Bourbon (1822-1887)

Jean Charles Marie Isidore of Bourbon , which carried the title of courtesy of “count de Montizón”, elder from the Capétiens and chief of the Maison of France under the name of Jean III , was born with the royal palace from Aranjuez (Spain) the May 15th 1822, and deceased with Hove (close to Brighton), Sussex (Great Britain) the November 18th 1887.

It was the second wire of the prince Charles of Bourbon (1788-1855), infant of Spain then “count de Molina”, and of its first marries the infante Marie-Francoise of Portugal (1800-1834), girl of the king Jean VI of Portugal.

With his birth prince Jean was titrated infant of Spain by his uncle the king Ferdinand VII.

Become adult, and in exile, prince Jean took the title of count de Montizón .

The February 6th 1847 with Modena, prince Jean married the princess Marie-Beatrice of Habsbourg-Lorraine-Este (1824-1906), girl of François IV (1779-1846), sovereign duke of Modena, the Maison of Lorraine, and his wife the princess Marie Béatrice of Sardinia (1792-1840), of the Maison of Savoy. Of this marriage prince Jean had two wire, the princes Charles (1848-1909) and Alphonse (1849-1936).

With the death of his/her older brother the " count de Montemolín" with Trieste the January 13rd 1861, prince Jean became for the carlists king of the Spain S and the the Indies under the name of Jean III .

Then, disappointed by the inaction of prince Jean, the carlists turned to his oldest son, whom they proclaimed king of the Spain S and the the Indies under the name of Charles VII, with London the July 20th 1868.

Consequently of what, at the request of his oldest son, prince Jean abdicated his rights to the throne of Spain, with Paris the October 3rd 1868.

Then with the death of his/her cousin the count de Chambord in Frohsdorf (Austria) the August 24th 1883, prince Jean became elder descendants of Hugues Capet, of holy Louis, Henri IV and Louis XIV. The legitimists French then recognized it like king of France and Navarre under the name of Jean III .

Prince Jean declared:
Become the chief of the House of Bourbon by the death of my brother-in-law and cousin Mr. the count de Chambord, I state to give up none the rights to the throne of France which I hold of my birth.

Prince Jean died in his house located with the n° 25, Seafield Road, with Hove, close to Brighton, in the Sussex (England), where he lived incognito under the name of Mr. Montagu . Its British death certificate mentions it like gift Juan de Bourbon, male, 65 years, off Royal Rank .

Its funerals were celebrated the November 24th 1887 in the church of the Sacred Heart of Brighton. The office was sung by the reverend father Hayes, former tutor of the grandson of prince Jean, the prince Jacques de Bourbon, future “duke of Anjou and Madrid”.

The November 27th the French weekly magazine the Journal of Paris appeared bordered of black with like large title “ DIED OF the KING JEAN III ”.

The November 29th the legitimists French made celebrate a mass of requiem to Paris in the Notre-Dame church of the Victories.

Prince Jean is buried with Trieste, in the Saint-Just cathedral, as a Jean III, king d' Espagne .

The legitimist French Maurice d' Andigné declared:
the king Jean III had given us the insurance that if he sat down one day on the throne of France, its program and its flag would be those of Mister the count de Chambord.
