The novels of Jean d' Ormesson often escape conventions from the romantic kind, in particular with the construction of an intrigue around some characters. Many digressions, a permanent procession of anecdotes where the humor and the scholarship of the normalien are spread, some recurring reasons, make an tireless meditation of it over the Time, which can take sometimes also the form of a treaty of life: the Glory of the Empire , God his life his work , History of the Jew wandering , Customs of sea , Almost nothing on almost all . Autobiographical dimension is always very present, in particular in On the side from Jean , Au-revoir and thank you , the Report/ratio Gabriel , It was well , books halfway account and test where Jean of O speaks about itself, not without strong repetitions, being depicted with a true-false modesty vis-a-vis all these obstacles which would like to deprive to us of the simple happiness to exist.
In its last books, it explores other ways ( Casimir carries out the Good life ), introducing characters different ( Voyez like one dances ) or breaking the icon from merry Ormesson ( a Festival in tears ).
