Jean XX

When one consults the Liste of the popes, one notes that the Pape Jean XX existed forever neither like pope, nor like Antipape. However, such a pope would have had in all logic, to reign between Jean XIX (pope of 1024 to 1032) and Jean XXI (pope in 1276 and 1277) or this last should have been seen allotting number XX.

The absence of Jean XX of the list of the popes is explained by an error of counting of the preceding Jean popes. At the 12th century, developed an erroneous tradition making succeed Jean XIV (pope into 983-984) a second Jean pope what made shift the classification of a unit and that Pedro Juliao Hispanus took the name of Jean XXI at the time of her election in 1276.
