Jean XVI
Jean XVI (Giovanni Filagato), died towards 998, antipape of 997 with 998.
A antipape is an applicant not recognized by the Roman Catholic church as a Pape.
Jean XVI was the archbishop of Pleasure. He was named by the Romans in reaction to the election of the pope Gregoire V. Indeed, this last being cousin and chaplain of Otton III, it declared it emperor of the Romans.
In spite of the fact that it had profited from papal forgiveness, it was plugged and mutilated by the population into 998.
