Jean V Wise the Born the December 24th 1389 with the castle of Hermine with Vannes - Deceased the August 29th 1442, with the manor of the Key close to Nantes), was Duc of Brittany of 1399 with 1442.

He was the son of the duke Jean IV and his third wife Jeanne de Navarre.

Certain historians, fascinating of account the reign of Jean de Montfort, indicate it under the name of Jean VI.

Biography

He became duke at the ten years age under the supervision of the duke of Burgundy. He reconciled with the king of France Charles VI of which he had married a girl. He also reconciled himself with Olivier de Clisson, the enemy of his father. In 1404, it demolished English close to Brest. It was scrambled with Clisson and was about to besiege it, when this last died. Combined of the French against the English at the end of the Guerre One hundred Year old, it arrived after the battle at Azincourt, which allowed him all the same and with few expenses to recover the town of St-Malo (then annexed to the kingdom) as its alliance with the king of France envisaged it. He followed then a policy of rocker between the two parties, English and French: he signed the treaty of Troyes which stripped Charles VII, but authorized his brother Arthur III of Brittany, constable of Richemont to be fought under his banner.

He had made peace with the counts de Penthièvre, but those had not given up reigning on Brittany. Invited to a festival that they gave to Champtoceaux in 1420, it there went, was stopped on the order of Margot de Clisson (countess dowager of Penthièvre), prisoner and death threat. This removal without precedent then moved the European princes, but did not cause any intervention of the court of France. But the action of his wife the duchess Jeanne de France and of the Breton barons enabled him to recover its freedom. It then fought against Jean II, count d' Alençon and put the seat in front of Pouancé (1434). Arthur de Richemont, which accompanied it, decided it to make peace.

He was the most beautiful prince of his time: splendid in its clothing, its pieces of furniture and its expenditure.
