Jean V Paleologist
Jean V Paleologist , born the June 18th 1332, died in Constantinople the February 16th 1391, Byzantine emperor of 1341 with 1376, then of 1379 with 1391, wire of Andronic III Paleologist and Anne of Savoy.
He sees his minority disturbed by the civil war between his Anne mother of Savoy and Jean Cantacuzène, proclaims emperor under the name of Jean V in 1341, with died of his cousin Andronic III. After 6 years of civil war, Jean VI enters Constantinople in 1347 and draws aside Anne of Savoy.
During this time monarchy weakens by the attacks of the Serb tsar Etienne IX of Serbia, the insolence of Génois and the establishment of the Turks with Gallipoli in 1354.
In 1351, Jean V enters again in civil war against Jean VI. The defeat of Jean VI in 1355, then that of Mathieu Cantacuzène in 1357, leaves to Jean V only emperor.
Poor statesman, it will not be able to raise the Byzantine empire. In 1365 the sultan Murad I {{er}} establishes its capital with Andrinople. Jean V goes in vain to Rome and task to obtain reinforcements of the Occident by the recognition of the religious union with Rome in 1369 and by a treaty of alliance with Venice in 1371. Of return in the East, he sees the sultans intervening unceasingly in the Byzantine internal conflicts which disturb the Empire, and taking it under supervision in 1374.
His/her son Andronic IV reverses it in 1376 with the assistance of the Génois, but Murad, to which it expressed his recognition by accepting the Turkish supervision , restores it on the throne in 1379.
It was again briefly deposited by its grandson, Jean VII, in 1390.

Married in 1347 with Helene Cantacuzène (1333 † 1396), girl of Jean VI and Irene of Bulgaria, it had:
