Career

Resulting from an easy medium, Jean Royère becomes decorator only at age the 29 years. Without particular formation but animated of an innate taste for decoration, it begins its career in a factory from the Faubourg Saint-Anthony and obtains its first great order (the bar of Carlton on the Fields-Élysées) in 1933. Its success is immediate and until in 1942 enables him to collaborate with Pierre Gouffé in the creation of an original furniture and great quality.

With leaving the war, having founded its own company, it decides to open agencies in many countries: Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Peru… Jean Royère at that time becomes the decorator of the sovereigns of the the Middle East, affirming a single style, made reasons declined with imagination and disproportion, audacity in the use of the colors and materials. Its fairy-like decorations do of it one of the most astonishing decorators of the post-war period, being registered in margin of the large currents, proposing single but always functional solutions.

Before definitively leaving France for the the United States, in 1980, the decorator offered the integrality of his files to the Musée of decorative Arts of Paris.

Its dimension

  • Two armchairs known as " Bear polaires" covered with origin of a shaved, green velvet of water, dating from the end of the Years 1940, were sold with the biddings with Paris in June 2007 for 204.500 euros (estimate 50/60 000 euros).
