Jean Rene Constant Quoy

Jean Rene Constant Quoy is a zoologist French, born the November 10th 1790 with Maillé, close to Maillezais, and dead the July 4th 1869 with Rochefort.

It enters to the naval medical school of Rochefort in 1806 (at sixteen years). It becomes the following year auxiliary surgeon of third class. It starts to serve on the corvette the Department of the Moors then, in 1810 on Jemmapes . The following year, he becomes surgeon of third class then, in 1812, surgeon of second class. He becomes doctor of medicine in Montpellier in 1814 with a thesis entitled Epistola dominae G. of nonnulis pavoris effectibus . In 1815, it is used at the maritime hospital as Rochefort.

It is useful like Naturaliste and army surgeon at the sides of Joseph Paul Gaimard (1796-1858) aboard the corvette Uranie ordered by the captain Louis Claude of Saulses de Freycinet (1779-1842). This voyage of Circumnavigation begun the September 17th 1817 is completed, on Physicienne , the November 9th 1820. Named again at the hospital of Rochefort, he works on the report of forwarding. In 1821, he becomes surgeon of first class. In 1824, he becomes professor of anatomy at the naval medical school of Rochefort and is made, in 1825, knight of the Légion of honor.

It leaves again on board the Astrolabe under the command Jules Dumont d' Urville. Its second voyage around the world begins the April 25th 1826 to be completed in 1829. As of its return to the hospital of Rochefort, it starts to work on a new report. In 1830, he becomes member corresponding of the Academy of Science. In 1835, he becomes first doctor as a chief of the hospital maritine of Toulon and is transferred to Brest in 1838.

In 1848, it is made to Officer of the Legion of Honor then commander in 1852. In 1848, he becomes general inspector of the department of health of the Navy before taking its retirement in 1858.
