Jean Raux is an academic and a Politician French. He was born on August 8th, 1936.

University career

Jean Raux achieves his studies at the University of Rennes within which it obtains a D.E.S of public law. In 1964, it supports its thesis of doctorate entitled " Foreign relations of the Européenne" Economic community;.

Part-time lecturer (1963) then main assisting (1967) with the University of Rennes 1, it continues there its career as university lecturer (1972) then as professor (1976).

It is titular since 1992 of a European pulpit Jean Monnet and ensured the coordination of the European Pole Jean Monnet of Rennes.

In 1966, it creates the Research center European of Rennes (CEDAR), research unit related to CNRS (today component of IODINE - Western Institute Right Europe). He will be the director until the end of the year 1993.

It also creates in 1971 of Community legislation (which will become DEA of Community legislation) in 1971 and will direct it until 1995.

It devotes many articles to the foreign relations of the European Communities like to the process of constitutionalization of the European Union.

It will occupy the presidency of the CEDECE (Commission on the studies of the European Communities), association of professors and researchers of European right, European economy and European political science, of 1981 to 1983.

Political commitment

Opposed to the war of Algeria, it militates within the UNEF then SGEN-CFDT. In agreement with Pierre Mendès France, it joined PSA, PSU and finally the Socialist party.

Engaged at the sides of Edmond Herve, he will be elected at the Municipal council of Rennes of 1983 to 1995 and will occupy the functions of assistant of the mayor delegated to the international relations and the European businesses.
