Biography
Jean Prat early wakes up with Rugby with Lourdes since 1939 (it meets then Soustons with the team first - he will become about it the indisputable holder at 19 years) with his club it FC Doors - in which he gains the championship of France with 6 recoveries, in 1948, 1952, 1953, 1956, 1957 and 1958 (and finalist in 1945, 1946 and 1955 - 1/2 F. 1954), the Coupe de France in 1945 and 1946 (and finalist in 1948), and the Yves Challenge of the Manor in 1953, 1954 and 1956 (and 1/2 finalist in 1955 and 1958)! He is the indisputable captain of the Lourdian formation, where also his/her brother Maurice Prat evolves/moves. The statute of captain gathers the prerogatives of the current captain at that time. but also those of the modern trainer. It is Jean Prat who was thus one of the stones of angle of the system of famous Lourdian play for his attack.Jean Prat was made prisoner of war in Germany in 1941. He then quickly joined (on January 1st 1945, against the team of the British army) the XV of France (348e international French), and takes part in his first international round in Argentine in 1949, then quite naturally becomes the captain about it (of 1953 with 1955). It thus takes share with the revival of French Rugby after the war by signing some performances of foreground, like beating for the first time the English with Twickenham (1951), or triumphing finally over the All Blacks in Colombes (1954)… over a single test at three points signed Jean Prat! In 1951, seized up, it does not take part in the only match lost by the team of France lasting this tournament (vis-a-vis Ireland - of 1947 (as of the 1st match of resumption of the tournament) at 1955, it was its only match of tournament not honoured). In 1952, he becomes the recordman of selections of the team of France. 20 years after Aime Cassayet with 34 capes. Prat will post 51 selections on the whole (French record until in 1964, and a time also world recordman (!): 30 victories, 1 no one, 20 defeats) for 16 capitanats (registering 145 points (world records also, until in 2000) over 10 years, including 26 transformations, 17 goals, 9 tests and 5 drop goals), and it gained - first times for France! - the Five Nations tournament twice, in 1954 (with Wales and England) and in 1955 (with Wales), finishing second into 1948,1949 and 1951 (*). He was also the best realizer of the competition in 1951 and 1952. Its principal fellow-members in third line were Guy Basquet and Jean Matheu-Cambas, but it there côtoya also his/her friends of club Roger Martine (back) and Henri Domec. It left the international scene 15 days after the last match of the tournament 1955, whereas it disputed a Grand Slam in Colombes in front of Rene Coty. April 10th following vis-a-vis the Italians. The same year 1955, it also gained the Mediterranean Jeux of Barcelona.
Jean Prat was a candidate and a born leader born. He even went at the end of him, and one will need a fracture of the fibula to make it leave the field of play against Wales in 1950. It also had the direction of the formula. France carries out thus of two small points vis-a-vis Wales in 1949 to Colombes to five minutes of the final whistle, and Prat feels well that the Blue ones start with flancher. It then delivers one of its sentences which would awake deaths: “These British emmerdés you during hundred years, you can hold five minutes well”. And the XV of France gain the match.
Its direction of the play, its frame of mind and its art was rented by its adversaries, honor rarissism for a French player. Jean Prat was thus carried triumphs over it by his adversaries Welsh at the any end over his international career, and called “Mister Rugby” by the British journalists.
He definitively stops the competition at the end of the season 1958 - 1959, after the semi-final of championship lost against the Racing club of France. His/her brother Maurice Prat also stops, whereas Jean Barthe and Pierre Lacaze leaves for the XIII. François Labazuy migrates to Tarbes, and Rancoule with Toulon. The manpower of the club is chamboulé, at the dawn of its penultimate victorious finale, in 1960. Prat, in addition excel skier and cyclist (the Pyrenees oblige) like frightening long-distance runner, is devoted from now on completely to its Lourdian coffee, the Winger .
He became then the selector-man of ground of the team of France of 1963 with 1967, with his credit a victory outside against South Africa in 1964 with Springs.
There remained faithful to FC Doors during all its tour rugbystic, and died the February 25th 2005 at 81 years with Tarbes, of the continuations of a " long maladie" , whereas 45 days before its death it still prefaced the work 100 years of Rugby in blue of Richard Escot (ED. Solar), one January 7th, 2005…
His/her son-in-law was the international Lourdian Michel Hauser. In 1928, the father of Jean and Maurice, Joseph Prat, had yielded a personal ground to the Lourdian FC Izards, on which was built the current stage of the club.
Since 2005, the " Trophy Jean Prat" from now on is allotted to the Champion club of France of Fédérale 1, first of the clubs to reach each year in Pro D2.
