Jean Peneff
Jean Peneff is a French sociologist who successively taught with Paris 8, at the department of sociology of the Université of Algiers, with the Université of Nantes and which finished its career of teacher to the Université of Provence (Aix-en-Provence).
At the beginning of its career, he is the pupil of Pierre Bourdieu, of which he will be detached in his return from Algiers to go on the other side of the Atlantic to draw his sociological inspiration near the heirs to the École of Chicago. He will know Everett Hughes and becomes friendly with Howard Becker near which he is familiarized with the methods of the Interactionnisme symbolic system that he will then return to teach in France.
He is one of those which will have contributed to make known in France the empirical methods developped at the point by holding of the School of Chicago. He teaches them with his students and incite them to put them to the test on grounds as various as the world of boxing, the people travellers, the disadvantaged districts, the world of the diplomats, the political parties, rural world etc
Its studies of the Algerian industrial world by the observation of its heads of undertakings give place to a series of articles published in France and to the the United States of America, like in 1981 with a work published by CNRS and entitled Industriels Algerian .
It is better known for the use, in a step hyper-skeptic, which it makes of the biographical Méthode. What he will write in the method Biographique , Armand Colin, 1990. This method which it describes is the fruit many investigations auprès in particular of trade unionists, working militants and teachers of the public school and private school.
