Jean Martinon is a Leader and Compositeur French, born with Lyon the January 10th 1910 and died in Paris on March 1st 1976
Biography
It enters to the Conservatoire of Lyon at the 13 years age. Three years later, it leaves its birthplace to enter to the Conservatoire of Paris. It works there the technique of the Violon with Jules Boucherit, the composition with Albert Roussel and Vincent d' Indy, and the direction of orchestra with Roger Désormière and Charles Münch. In 1934, it is solo violin with the Radio and begins a series of rounds in province and abroad.
Prisoner of war during two years, interned in a Stalag, it composes several works there: Psalm 136 or Song of the Prisoners ; Music of exile , Sonatine nº 3 for piano , Sonatine nº 4 for trio of sheers , and several works choral societies.
On his return of captivity, Jean Martinon is named first symphonic leader of the radio of Dublin (1947-1950). He composes his Symphonie nº 3 in 1948. He also directs the orchestras Colonne, Pasdeloup, and the Société in the Concerts of the Academy (as substitute for Charles Münch). From 1946 to 1948, he is chief associated with the Philharmonic orchestra of London. He writes the opera Hécube , the Ballet Ambohimanga or the blue city , several parts for piano, etc Of 1951 with 1958, he is President and leader of the Concerts Lamoureux, in Paris, then director artistic of the Philharmonic orchestra of Israel (1957-1959). It composes in 1952, a Oratorio: the Lily of Saron or the Song of Songs . In 1959, it is named at the general position of director of the music with Düsseldorf (prestigious station occupied by Schumann and Mendelssohn at the 19th century).
Then its career leads it to the United States, where, in 1963, he becomes Musical director of the city with Chicago. For its 55e birthday, the Symphony orchestra of Chicago orders its Symphonie nº to him 4 “Altitudes” (1965).
In 1967, it receives the medal Gustav Mahler for its interpretations of symphonic works of the type-setter. Then he becomes Directeur of the National orchestra of France, station which he occupies during six years. In January 1974, he becomes permanent chief of the Orchestre of the Residence of $the Hague.
In the whole world, Jean Martinon played the part of ambassador of the French music to which it devoted the essence of an abundant discography: he in particular carried out the integral of the work of Ravel (with several news), Debussy and Saint-Saëns (with two symphonies of youth exhumed for the circumstance), the majority of works of Roussel and the integral of the symphonies of Prokofiev.
