Jean Markale , of his true name Jacques Bertrand , born the May 23rd 1928 with Paris, is a writer, poet, storyteller and lecturer French.

In her childhood, his/her Breton grandmother had initiated it with the tales and local legends and thus caused in him a true passion for the Celtic world. It began its career as professor of letters with Paris where it made dream his pupils in their speaking about the mysteries of Brocéliande. In parallel, he undertook to study in-depth and to tell the cycle arthurien and, with the wire of time, he became a specialist recognized in the history and Celtic literatures. Having left teaching, it was then entirely devoted to its work.

It published many books on the Celtic civilization. In particular, it deepened, the place of the woman in the Celtic world and the cycle of the Graal. If its first works were a little indigestible so much they were full with details scholars, its style evolved to popularization, thus making it possible many people to familiarize itself with her subject.

It takes sometimes a position opposed to that of the " savants". For example its opinion on the subject of the enigma of Alésia in " Vercingétorix" , editions of the Rock, page 229:

“is Alésia de César and of Vercingétorix Sorb-apple-Holy-Queen or Draw sheet? The thesis favorable to Sorb-apple-Holy-Queen is supported on no absolute proof. The thesis favorable to Alaise contains interesting elements, especially within the framework of a general reflection on the respective movements of César and Vercingétorix.”

Polemic

Christian-Joseph Guyonvarc' H, in: Mythological Texts Irish , Rennes, Ogam-Celticum N°11/1 & 2,1978, p. 39. , critical its work the Celtic epopee in Brittany : sometimes

“Mr. Jean Bertrand, known as Jean Markale, is made pass for professor of traditional letters. He never says where he teaches; But (…) he cannot accentuate the Greek, is unaware of all Latin (…) he does not know how much case comprises the Irish variation (sometimes two, sometimes three)”

Not making to university part of the world people such as Christian-Joseph Guyonvarc' H, but rather turned towards that of the media, one can imagine that the success of its works could be worth in Jean Markale some jealousies… .

He was also condemned in a business of plagiarism in 1989, having made reappear under his own name the Guide it Brittany Mystérieuse , published twenty years earlier by Gwenc' hlan Scouëzec at Tchou, which had already published the original in the same collection. The work finished with the rammer but this business seems to be due to an abuse the editor .
