Jean Métellus was born in 1937 with Jacmel in Haiti, he emigrated in France in 1959 at the time of the dictatorship of Duvaliers where he continued studies of medicine and started to write.

Pushed by Maurice Nadeau, Andre Malraux and Aime Césaire, Jean Métellus conquered a general recognition for his art first, the Poésie. Today indexed in the Anthology of the French poetry of the 20th century , its poems are translated into Italian, Spanish and cities by certain groups of Rap. He is also novelist, playwright and essay writer.

The principal activity of Jean Métellus was medicine (Neurologue specialized in the speech difficulties). In parallel of its daily activity of doctor, it gradually created an important work. Starting from the editions of 1998, the Robert of the proper names reference the Haitian writer.

The poet

Jean Métellus received in 2006 the International Grand Prix Léopold Sédar Senghor of Poetry of French language for the whole of his work. The price was given to the living room of the book of Paris in March 2006 by Sylvestre Clancier and Paul Sabourin of association Nouvelle Pleiad.
