Jean Lurçat
Jean Lurçat born with Heathers, the Vosges on July 1st 1892, wire of Lucien Jean Lurçat Baptist and Marie Emile Marguerite the Host, dead the January 6th 1966 with Saint-Paul de Vence is renovating contemporary Tapisserie. It was student with Épinal then with Nancy.
He was member of the Academies of Sciences and the Art schools of France, Belgium and the Portugal, president of the circle of information of the old and modern tapestry.
He accepted his first official order which was woven Manufacture of the Goblins in 1936 ( Illusions of Icare ). In 1939, it settled with Aubusson in the Creuse. It there created important works in collaboration with the liquid manure François Tabard, and started again the workshops of Tapisserie of Aubusson.
Its works are known whole world; most important: the Song of the world , is a large woven fabric (makes of them nine tapestries measuring 500 m ² together), it measures seventy-nine meters length for a four meters height and half. Started in 1957, it was to be a hundred and twenty-five meters long, but this philosopher's stone was stopped by the death of the artist. Currently, it is exposed to the Musée Jean Lurçat and of the contemporary tapestry to Angers.
Several cities disputed this masterpiece, Madam Simone Lurçat (born Selves) gave the preference to the town of Angers where it is currently.
Jean Lurçat had fixed himself at Saint-Céré, where it had bought an old castle in ruins which it will restore to make his workshop. This castle, located at Saint-Laurent-the-Turns, dominates the valley of Saint-Céré. Currently, you can visit the museum, placed in the enclosure of the castle.
He dies suddenly the January 6th 1966 with Saint-Paul de Vence.

Simone Selves, its wife, with fact an important donation of works of his/her husband to the Academy of Beautiful arts in December 2001. She currently lives in Paris and goes to the castle of Saint Laurent 4 to 6 months per annum.
In France, more than 20 establishments bear its name: school of St Laurent-the-Turns, College and College of Saint-Céré, a public corporation of the 13th district as in Bruyères (88) where one of its statues is exposed in front of the entry of the college.
Note: his/her brother Andre Lurçat (born in 1894 with Heathers - the Vosges, died in 1970 with Seals), architect, rebuilt Maubeuge and built school complexes and whole of dwelling in Paris region.
