Jean Louail

Jean Louail , (March 4th 1668, Evron - March 3rd 1724, church of Saint-Etienne-of-Mount, Paris), French theologist.

Biography

Wire of Jean Louail and Marie Godubert: the Louail family is known as of the 15th century. It finishes its studies with the college of Mayenne of 1683 with 1685, under the direction of Anjubault.

It makes with Paris studies of Droit, then becomes priest. Already influenced by the Jansénisme in Mayenne, it becomes friendly of Port-Royal and burning Jansenist. He is doctor in right in 1696. Appealing author, it was friendly of Nicolas Letourneux, and shared some time his retirement.

He will be tutor of the fourth wire of Louvois, priest like him, and accompanied it with Rome, where he bought 3.000 volumes for the Bibliothèque of Louis XIV. It was undoubtedly by the protection of this abbot that it obtained the priory of Auray.

After the death of the abbot of Louvois, arrived in 1718, Louail refused the place of librarian of the Cardinal of Noailles, and lived in the retirement until its death, arrival the March 3rd 1724.

Given adversary of the Jesuit S, he is the author of many works of Théologie, of polemical and historical works, which reflect the historical quarrels of the time. It had helped Francoise-Marguerite de Joncoux in the translation of the Notes of Wendrock on the Provinciales of Blaise Pascal, notes which one can be of Pierre Nicole.
